Overview of Anew
Anew is currently the only charity in Ireland who works specifically with pregnant women and new mothers experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, homelessness. We work intensively to support, safeguard and empower women, their babies and where appropriate the baby’s father, while supporting them to access appropriate housing and accommodation as soon as possible.
Our aims are to:
- Remove the barriers women experience to accessing the support and resources they (and babies) need to flourish and live happy and healthy lives
- Provide preventative and early intervention maternal support for better lifelong outcomes – to break the cycle of poverty and socio-economic disadvantage
- Improve pre- and post-natal health and well- being for mother and baby.
- Reduce homelessness for pregnant women and new mothers.
To achieve these aims we provide intensive practical and emotional supports as follows:
- Supported Temporary Accommodation (STA) in Swords, Co. Dublin where we provide intensive 24-hour supported accommodation for up to 18 women and their babies annually (four en-suite bedrooms).
- Day Services in our Centre in Dublin City (Haven House) – we work with over 100 women annually around life skills, peer support and a range of specialised programmes.
- Outreach Support in family hubs, hostels and other emergency accommodation throughout Dublin around life skills, peer support and a range of specialised programmes.
- Step Down (Transitionary) Accommodation in Dublin 9.
Anew’s Values
- We take personal responsibility for using our resources efficiently, achieving measurable results, and being accountable to supporters, partners and, most of all, the women, children, and families who we work with.
- We bring out the potential in people including our staff and the women and families that we work with. We think, feel, listen, see, and understand with those who use our services.
- We strive for excellence in all that we do, it should be more than “just good enough”. Our service should be excellent because everyone deserves it.
- We provide a safe non-judgemental place for the women and families who use our services. We reassure, respect, and provide an environment of trust.
